About Us

The Elephant Action League (EAL) is a new independent nonprofit organization with the Mission to fight wildlife crime through Concrete, Innovative and Collaborative projects.

EAL has been legally established in 2013 in Los Angeles, California, and it has representatives in Washington DC, New York, Amsterdam, Milan and Nairobi. It’s a registered nonprofit, tax-exempt charity under section 501(c)(3) of the U.S. Internal Revenue Code. Donations are tax deductible to the extent allowed by U.S. law.

We operate both in the field and in the more sophisticated and tricky world of global communication and advocacy.

We raise much needed money to fund specific, concrete projects on the ground that include anti-trafficking & anti-poaching activities, training for rangers/law enforcement entities, investigations on wildlife trafficking and the use of new technologies.

We currently work, directly or in collaboration with partners, in six African and two Asian countries. Some of our partners and operations are kept confidential for security reasons, as the targets of many investigative projects are often powerful individuals.

On February 2014 we launched WildLeaks, the world’s first wildlife crime whistleblower initiative. Through WildLeaks we collect anonymous confidential information about wildlife crime and we act through our field investigations and by sharing specific leads with other NGOs or with selected law enforcement agencies.

A team member of EAL was behind the first groundbreaking investigation on the link between the Somali terrorist group al-Shabaab and the illegal ivory trade (http://elephantleague.org/project/africas-white-gold-of-jihad-al-shabaab-and-conflict-ivory).

As a part of our mission we also develop innovative strong global awareness campaigns in order to re-position wildlife exploitation in the public’s mind, pressure consumers of ivory, rhino horn and other wildlife products, and hold governments accountable for their lack of action.

The EAL’s team is very diverse and includes individuals with varied expertise, from wildlife conservation to business to security/investigation to communication to entrepreneurship. A unique blend of high-level professionals, with true networking power and the capacity to deliver.

We strive to be a generous movement and to support our partners and all the organizations that share our values and work towards the same goals.
